Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra and is also the financial capital of India. The city is located on the island of Sancti on the west coast of Maharashtra. Mumbai is the largest city in South Asia. The city derives its name from the name of Mamba Devi, the deity of the Marathas.
Mumbai or Bombay is the economic, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is one of the top ten trading hubs in the world. Mumbai Metropolitan has a share of 6.16% in India’s GDP , 25% in Industrial Production, 70% in Marine Trade, 70% in Capital Transactions.
The city also houses important financial institutions such as Reserve Bank of India, Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange of India, SEBI and corporate headquarters of several Indian and multinational corporations.
The city is home to the Hindi (Bollywood) and Marathi film industries of India.
Airport Info
Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport is one of the most prominent airports in India. The first airport in India is the Juhu Aerodrome, which is also located in the Fly Club and the Heli Air offices.
Mumbai airport has three terminals. The whole area is set up in 750 hectares. The airport carried out 51 movements in an hour on 16 September 2014.
The airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). The company is established in partnership between Airport Authority of India and GVK Industries Limited Consortium. The airport was named after the 17th-century Maratha Warrior King. Earlier, this airport was named Sahar Airport.
After Indira Gandhi International Airport (101.9 Meters) in Delhi, India’s second largest air traffic control tower, 85m (279 feet) is here only. It is estimated that 25% of the country’s passengers in the country and ‘38% of the domestic passengers will travel from Mumbai.
